Postcard for a Gallery Show

Postcard for a gallery show of mine. The theme was the moon. The Hexagram represented is #15, mountain under the earth. Symbolic of the full moon and modesty. The show’s opening is on the full moon. The top section is a mural by Susan Cervantes, the middle is Ned Millet’s moonscape, and the bottom section is mine, a nude. The nude at the bottom is comprised of two yin, which can be interpreted as female. The whole thing is very symbolic.

I come up with and change the text for each issue of Urban Moto:

August ‘07:

Benjamin Franklin sought to cultivate his character by a plan of thirteen virtues:
1. TEMPERANCE – Eat not to dullness; drink not to elevation.
2. SILENCE – Speak not but what may benefit others or yourself; avoid trifling conversation.
3. ORDER – Let all your things have their places; let each part of your business have its time.
4. RESOLUTION – Resolve to perform what you ought; perform without fail what you resolve.
5. FRUGALITY – Make no expense but to do good to others or yourself; i.e., waste nothing.
6. INDUSTRY – Lose no time; be always employ’d in something useful; cut off all unnecessary actions.
7. SINCERITY – Use no hurtful deceit; think innocently and justly, and, if you speak, speak accordingly.
8. JUSTICE – Wrong none by doing injuries, or omitting the benefits that are your duty.
9. MODERATION – Avoid extremes; forbear resenting injuries so much as you think they deserve.
10. CLEANLINESS – Tolerate no uncleanliness in body, cloaths, or habitation.
11. TRANQUILLITY – Be not disturbed at trifles, or at accidents common or unavoidable.
12. CHASTITY – Rarely use venery but for health or offspring, never to dullness, weakness, or the injury of your own or another’s peace or reputation.
13. HUMILITY – Imitate Jesus and Socrates.

September ‘07:

A kind of snow, which hesitates

To listen, by the sputtering, smoking fire,
Through the back of the picture at the patch of white

Snow haze gleams like sand.

That open before me? What I see
Only whirled snow heaped up by whirled snow,

Beyond ice floe and berg and ice-bound sea,
Sphinx of questioning substance, or a sort
Deep in the fog that quenches every ray,
It’s snowing, it’s returning to a town
He terrifies the Vast, he seems so wild;
One flash of eye, or blow one clarion-blast;

This is an image I cleaned up for a client who presented it as a gift to the now 60 year old subject of the photograph. The photo was creased down the middle and had water marks and scratches. This is tedious but fun work. It took me a little over 6 hours to do.

The animation program I used to create this gif balked at one point, so depending on your browser, it might flash white for a bit.
