The logo for YLEM: Artists Using Science and Technology, a non-profit organization that I run. Ylem is a term that roughly means “soup” and is the name give to the stuff that was there in the universe before there was any Hydrogen, sort of pre-matter matter.
It is basically a cleaning up and re-examination of the pre-existing logo which was created in the early 80’s from a set of rub on letters. I used four shades of gray to give a look of translucence. If you stare at it for a bit, you should be able to see that the logo looks either like you are viewing it from above or below. A similar idea was in the original logo, but the lines were more like rods, so it was hard to read.
The confusion of perspective and translucence carries the idea of ylem as the potential and first substance of existence. As an added bonus, the image above has a translucent background.
